Starting this blog came with a ton of questions from my friends and family. I still get asked random questions on a daily basis, but I’ve picked the top 4 so you guys can learn more about the chick behind the blog.

Do you work in food or is it just a hobby?

Well, imaginary question-asker, food isn’t a hobby. So weird question. While I absolutely wish I got paid to sit and eat food all day, I do not. I started working in sports when I was 16 and am currently living my dream out at the Worldwide Leader. Sports is my career, food is my passion.

What does ‘let it pan out’ even mean?

If you knew me before I started this blog, you know I had a million different names lined up, and tried a few more sticking to this one. The reason I finally committed to “Let It Pan Out” mostly lies in the bigger picture the saying means to me (and the pun of cooking, duh). I’ve struggled with anxiety since I was 13 years old, and it got to a point of constantly calling my mom with panic attacks over things I can’t control. She used to tell me, “Stop worrying about things you can’t control and focus on what you can.” Moms just know, and so when I became the half-adult I am today, I realized that diet and exercise are two things we have complete control over; if not, two of the only things. So I took that mentality and started applying it, and as a result, my anxiety has lessened, my happiness has soared, and I’ve taken this food mantra into my everyday life.

Do you actually eat all of the food you make for the blog?

Yes. Like what kind of question is this? It’s insulting — stop asking me it. To think that there are even people out there photographing food and then not eating it hurts me, but that’s besides the point. I love to eat, and I absolutely, 100% of the time, eat the food I make for this. The only time I don’t is when I’m cooking and my friend Andrew walks through the door and is hungry and not in the mood to share. But other than that, I’m an eater. I want my recipes to be as real as possible, and I will never share something on here that I don’t really believe, or in the case of a recipe, really enjoy to eat. 

I can’t give up Oreos. There’s no way I won’t eat cheese. Are you crazy?

Ummmm. Yeah. Not much of a question but I hear it weekly. I decided to give up processed food and it’s been the best decision I ever made. If I can’t pronounce the ingredients, I don’t eat it. Michael Pollan is one of my favorite food authors, and The Omnivore’s Dilemma changed my life. Read it. And learn that the key isn’t to feel restricted, it’s to feel liberated. Eating and feeling energetic after is this forgotten phenomenon in American culture. Carrying around extra bloat has become normal. And for me, eating mostly plants, vegetables, fruits and grains, with a small amount of animal-based protein and no dairy, is the dopest thing ever. So yeah, yeah I’m crazy. But I feel really effing good.
